good week!

So, i always get on here and say i'm gonna write something, but i can never think of anything to write. but this week has been especially good - at least compared to recent weeks, so i decided i'd write about what made it a good week!

1. I don't have a paper to write!
2. I didn't have anything important to do over the weekend - no football games!
3. I had a band concert yesterday!
4. My parents came to my band concert!
5. We ate at Olive Garden before the concert - mmmm
6. I had my last piano class of the semester today
7. I got a letter from Paco!
8. I don't have to play my really hard band music anymore - instead we get Christmas music!
9. The A clarinets will be coming in sometime this week, and I'm getting one!!!
10. I don't have a composition project due this week
11. I don't have Wind Ensemble on Thursday, which means an extra two hour break!
12. Only one week till Thanksgiving break!
13. Only one week till I get to see my puppy!!! (i miss my sadie dog!)
14. I got to skype Ij this weekend!
15. I realize I really don't have that much homework.
16. I've been able to practice more
17. The grad student in my section no longer seems to be upset with me for not being good enough...
18. I was able to go to church on sunday! It was outside!
19. I've been required to listen to the Brahms Requiem a lot for my theory class, which is a beautiful piece so i like the fact that we listen to parts of it multiple times each class
20. They had cookies and fried chicken in the dining hall today
21. I made truffles the other night! They're delicious.
22. I got 100 on my theory test!
23. I got 100 on my math test!
24. My teacher read my essay out loud because she liked it the most
25. Did I mention I don't have to write a paper this week?
26. We're learning the dance block in marching band which is fun - it makes me sore, though!
27. We cleaned our room! And it's gonna stay that way. (hopefully!)
28. Everyone just seems to be in a good mood!
29. I'm at school for music - I love music.
30. We're going to see Harry Potter on Saturday! (or at least planning on it!)

So, that's just a few things that have made this week awesome! (Michelle, it kinda turned into one of your lists of things to be thankful for! Haha) I hope it continues to be a good week!

all we do is win!

so, ecu beat state, such a great game! it made me sooo nervous! it went into overtime and we missed the extra point but made an interception when they had the ball and it was over! shoo. games are so much fun, though. and it was neat to finally get to play state! we only play them every other year, so the next time we play will be at state my senior year. kind of a long way away, but i wanna go! i dont think i'll be in marching band then, though... state's full band came to the game! unfortunately i didnt really know anyone in it. well, i take that back, i didnt know i knew anyone in it, except for people i've met a couple times through a few of my friends at school. actually, i found out yesterday that molly hedges is in it, and she was in band with me in high school! she plays clarinet! but i didnt see her. we played hey baby with their band and it made me a little sad cause i didnt have anyone to sing it to. i sang to a random guy on tenors...

but i think some people at state may be a little sore after their loss. good game, though. nice try.

time flies?

so can you believe i'm gonna be 20 in less than 3 months? i've been thinking about that a lot lately. how old i am. how i'm 5/16ths of the way through college (at least my undergrad). my little brother will be 18! which makes me feel old, too. it doesnt seem like that long ago when i was 16 and getting my drivers' license... but that was 4 years ago. and soon, 18 will be 2 years ago! i hardly feel 19 right now. like, i have to remind myself. i'm not a freshman anymore. i'll never be a freshman again! senior year doesnt feel like it was that long ago, either, but once i'm done with this year, i'll be closer to being a senior in college than a senior in high school.

i do think i'll go to grad school, though. an extra 2 years to figure out a job. and pay tuition... a job is something i worry about. it's why i'm a double major. from what i hear, it's really difficult for a performance major to find a job. and i knew this, but i still chose it as my major. i'm already nervous about auditions for symphonies and stuff, and i've barely even thought about it.

i can't decide if i want time to go fast or slow. at first i think fast, but then i think about all the things that'll happen, all the decisions i'll have to make, and i think, no, i'd like it to go slow. but i think what i really want is for it to start fast then slow down before i graduate.

by the way, corn mazes are awesome. and wrightsville beach under a new moon is absolutely amazing. there were more stars than i think i've ever seen at once and the water was so sparkly you wouldnt believe. and i saw 2 shooting stars. it was magical. i'm almost scared to go back cause it can't be as perfect as it was on friday night.

fall break!!

fall break is sooo close! but 4 days kinda feels like a long time. i still have to make it through my modern algebra test. and 2 more marching band rehearsals. today marching band was actually pretty good - franklin (our director) was out sick so it was run by the grad staff. everyone was in a better mood so we sounded better and everything. i just hope we get a lot done on wednesday so maybe, possibly, we'll get out early on friday! i'm crossing my fingers. i'm going to the football game at ashley that night and i realllly want to get there as quickly as i can so i wont miss half time. i made it before half time last year, so i think i can do it again.

but yes, 4 more days, and i can't wait. i really need a break. i feel like i'm in a bad mood too often here, things getting me down that shouldnt bother me and whatnaught. things i shouldnt let bother me that i've been dealing with for a long time that are just... hard to deal with now. ugh. a break from it will help. friday night can't come fast enough.

i wish

i wish 11:11 wishes would come true.

i also wish the orchestra schedule would be posted so i know what time i have to go to class tomorrow.

Catching up!

Shoo! It's been a really long time since i blogged. I don't know if anyone really missed them, but maybe someone will read this anyway!

So, school. So far this semester i've been really busy, especially with marching band. Which, unfortunately, i'm beginning to dread. Just cause my director gets on my nerves so so so bad. But i love game days, so I stay in it. Our first game is Sunday! (kinda sad it's sunday. and on a long weekend, too...) Go pirates!!!! Arrrrgh!!!!

This semester i made orchestra which is really exciting! and wind ensemble, which is a lot of fun cause, unlike marching band, our conductor for wind ensemble is one of my favorite professors. he's really entertaining - i need to start keeping track of all his "Carterisms" as one of my friends called them. (He's Dr. Carter and he says lots of interesting things, aka, carterisms). The other day he was getting on some people about being late to rehearsal and he said "Don't ever walk in late. If you walk in late again i'm gonna gouge out your eyeballs, throw them up against the wall and have your classmates throw darts at them." I think that was the most violent carterism i've ever heard. but it got the point across.

Anyway! I really like my new dorm - it's suite-style, which is different from the hall style that i was in last year. my roommate (still meredith!) and i share a short hallway with 3 other rooms of 4 (so there are 8 of us) and we share a bathroom with the room next to us (4 girls to one bathroom) which works out pretty well. I havent really gotten to know all of our suitemates yet, though. i basically only know music majors, but luckily a majority of the 4th floor (my floor) consists of music majors, except for our suitemates - something got messed up and our suite is one of like, 3 or 4 that isnt completely music majors.

So, yeah, i'm sorry this is so long, congratulations for making it to the end! i hope all of you are have a great year so far, and i'm sure it'll get better if you're not! Happy long weekend!!!

summer's almost over...

so wow. it's been a while since i've written, and now summer's almost over. i still havent decided if that's good or bad; it kinda depends what mood i'm in. but i've had a good summer!

i just got back from 2 weeks out of town. it was a long time, but it was fun. i went to washington with my college church group on a mission trip; then met my family in rocky mount and went to williamsburg; then raleigh; then met meredith, michael, and josh to go to salem, va; then back to raleigh/cary to pick up meredith's car; then to michael's house in edenton; then back to cary where my dad picked me up at meredith's house; then finally, home! shoo! that was like, 8 changes of direction. and a lot of time in a car or bus. but it was fun. i missed my puppy dog, though, no matter how crazy she is. she was the first person (er, animal) to greet me at the door when i got home!

summer

summer sometimes seems like it goes by too fast, but other times it seems like eternity. i can't decide which one this summer is, because it seems to change depending on how i look at it. i dont know if i want it to end, or if i want it to go on - i guess kind of both, although going to school would give me more to do. a regular schedule. but there are some things i dont want to leave, too. people at home that i may not see for a while once i leave. how long is a while?

but then, there are also people i can't wait to see at school - and i was lucky enough to see a bunch of them this weekend in pinehurst - it was so much fun! we're all music majors so we had a recital to raise money for this thing called "the coalition" which helps people who, well, need help. but just us 7 college students were able to raise around $750! we were playing for a bunch of old people in a church, so... but it was a lot of fun and for a good cause and the rest of the weekend was a lot of fun, too, of course! i got to go in a taxidermy museum... haha

but anyway, after this week, i only have 2 more weeks that i'll be in wilmington before school starts, and i can't believe it. i need to catch up with everyone before i go!!

by the way, i dont think i could possibly express how much i hate cockroaches. ew, ew, ewwww!!!

hmm...

i havent written a blog in a really really long time. i think almost a month, actually. i dont really have anything to say - at least not that i feel like writing down for people to see... i was thinking about going to ecu tomorrow, but i dont think i am anymore - maybe next week? i dont know - it requires more planning and less rain. hmm, i'll write again sometime when i have something interesting to say, i suppose.

best week ever!

so how about this week has been pretty much the best week of the semester! starting last friday. and i hope it will extend to next friday, and then summer!!! well, friday i went to state to surprise ij for her birthday! i also got to see michelle, lauren, kate, kelsey, and paco! (i met other people, too, though!) while ij, lauren, kate, and kelsey were at a party, michelle and i explored campus and took pictures with paco - it was pretty fun - but i still don't know my way around campus! haha, oh well... then michelle and i spent the night in ij and maria's room

k, next day, i came back to my room, which is normally a mess, and meredith's side was much cleaner than it had been! a surprise! but that also meant that it was my turn. so i cleaned my room with a lot of help from michael and moral support from todd! it was sooo weird! it was a little sad, just cause it felt less like home, but it also felt good to get it cleaned up - such an accomplishment! so then we went to 'sup dogs, which is a hot dog place down town. it was me, meredith, joy, michael, todd, and william, who's randomly started hanging out with us a lot lately, but that's ok by me... haha... so, anyway, at 'sup dogs, our waitress seemed like she was drunk or something - first she wiped the wet table off with a wet rag... not much help. then she overfilled meredith's cup and poured it on michael's hand. she sounded drunk, or else not very intelligent... she swayed a lot, too - and winked at michael. we guessed she was a communications major, but todd asked her and she was actually a science ed major. we all decided that we would not let her teach our kids...

sunday! meredith, michael, joy, william and i went to church - it was a really good service with a guest speaker and everything! there was this contraption on the stage and we were trying to guess what it was - it was a table with a camera above it and lights in it and a guy poured sand on the lighted part and drew in it and it showed up on the screen - pretty cool!

monday was my last day of classes ever as a freshman. this year has just flown by! wow. it was my last lesson and my last practice with my accompanist before juries, too (which are tomorrow! ahhh!) that night joy, william, and i went to play hide and seek in the music building at 11:30 - it was so much fun! there were over 20 people playing, and we were there till about 1 - i was so tired after that! it was an intense game of hide and seek!

hmm, tuesday! well, i slept in, but other than that, i completely forgot what i did in the day. i practiced, i think... that night we had a picnic, though! i keep listing the names of people you don't know, but it was me, meredith, michael, brenton, todd, cera, and brooke this time. we had hibachi and went to the park and ran around and threw ice and flew and skipped and it was so much fun - i'm gonna miss my college friends so much this summer! but we're gonna visit each other! then later that night joy and i went to william's suite and watched the return of the king - a 4 hour movie! it was finally over at 1:30.

wednesday night was free breakfast at midnight! that was fun, too - and then some friends previously mentioned came back to our room and ate truffles which i had made before with us.

today i had a linear algebra exam which i think went well and then i practiced and we ate dinner and... well, it was fun even if it doesnt sound very exciting! haha

to be continued....

almost the weekend!

Man, i'm always living for the weekend. Tomorrow's friday!! Yay! Only two classes then i'm done! Then it's the weekend! woohoo! My sunday is going to be full of music! I'm going to a clarinet recital at 1, then the brahm's requiem performance at 3 (it's gonna be amazing!!!), then a saxophone recital at 7, and i thought there was one at 5, but i might be lying. Either way, that's a lot of music!

I went to barefoot on the mall today - it's this celebration type thing in the middle of campus - the place we call "the mall" for some reason. It's kinda like the brickyard at state, except it's grass instead of bricks. Jason Deruli-something was there. The one that added words to Hide and Seek. I can't ever remember his name... I didn't really pay that much attention to him, though. Also Carolina Liar - I actually recognized one of their songs, but I don't know why. I still don't know if they're even famous... There were about 7,584,623 dogs there! Of all shapes and sizes. One was so tiny it looked like it's legs would break with every step it took, and another looked to be about the size of a small grizzly bear. I got a free shirt!

Juries are coming up soon... ahh! If you don't know, that's when we play for some of the school of music faculty; it's kind of like a final exam for our lessons. Usually there's 3-5 people that you play for, but I think I may have accidently signed up for a time when there's only going to be one - my teacher. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though - he'll be my toughest judge, so it might be a bad thing... i may need to change that...

11 days of classes!

last night meredith and i went to wilmington to see the goo goo dolls! they were really good, and i recognized most of the songs although i didnt know all the words and stuff... she went to see my favorite band with me, so i had to go see her favorite band with her - it was fun, though. the opening act was collective soul, and i actually knew several of their songs, too - which i wasnt expecting. their drummer had really strange hair and he liked to shake his head around all the time - even in the slow songs. and the bass player with the goo goo dolls was really creepy. i didnt like his voice - speaking and singing. it was very cartoonish, and kind of evil sounding. not very goo goo doll-like. creepy man. he was barefoot. and really liked to slap his strings. i dont really know what that does. but his creepiness was entertaining, i must admit! it was a good concert.

the night before last was pretty interesting, too. i was just about to go to sleep and all the sudden i hear this tiny beep in the hall and i was like, "oh shoot - is that the fire alarm?" and meredith was like, "what?" and then it started getting louder and soon it was blaring in the hallway. ughhhh. 12:00. so we went outside. it was chilly.... and eventually we came back in and someone said the bathroom ceiling was leaking so we went to look and sure enough, it was. but not just any leak - it was pouring! and i live on the 3rd floor out of 4, so we wondered what the 4th floor looked like... haha.

well, we went up to the fourth floor (where all the football players live) and sure enough, a pipe had burst (we learned later that a guy was trying to do pullups on it... dumb jocks) and water was shooting out of it all the way to the back wall - like a fire hydrant or something! there was about 3 or 4 inches of water on the floor of the bathroom. one guy was like, "well, i'll go get my towel and we'll clean this up..." haha.

but yeah, that was what set off the alarm - it was hot water. all the firemen and police were up on the fourth floor, too - idk how they got rid of the water, but whatever they did, the alarm went off again at 1:45, and this time i was asleep. so we get out in the hall and the RA was like, no go back in your rooms - we're not evacuating this time - unless you want to. so we kept going cause it was really loud... but then we got outside and they told us to go back in our rooms. we did. it was realllly loud. still. in our rooms. how were we supposed to sleep in our rooms with this alarm going off? but it stopped in a couple minutes, luckily. and that was the end of our adventure.

oh, by the way, the ceiling is still leaking a little. there are wet spots all over the bathroom floor...

i can't wait till summer! when i don't have homework or papers or classes. when i can go to the beach and just... hang out. when i can see all my friends from high school! hopefully i'll get a job, though, which will take away some of my summer unfortunately....

i want to go to the beach every day and not get burnt

i want to go to the beach every night and see the sparkly water

i want to hang out with my friendsssss! from high school, church, and college (cause i will see my friends here over break! we're gonna visit everybody's home town - so we say...)

i want it to be warm and stay warm

i don't want to go to classes.

i don't want people to leave

i want so many things. i wish june could come and stay. or may or july. but june would be nice.

busyyyy....

well, i haven't written in a really long time, and i apologize! ah, mondays... only 7 more until i'm home! luckily this one's pretty much over, and it's gone by really fast! spring break is over too, which is sad... last tuesday i went to raleigh and visited state! it was fun! i saw a bajillion people! well, a lot - and some that i knew, too - haha. let's see, i saw ij, kate, victoria, paco, thomas, lauren (avery), john (ryan), kara, sam, and kyle! and meredith, too - i spent the night at her house! but it was neat - it happened to be founders day, or something like that, and i got to hold a baby chick, pet a cow and a snake, and i saw another cow with a hole in its side! holey cow! get it? haha - but it's called a "fistulated cow," and supposedly they use some of the bacteria in its stomach to help other cows when they're sick? i'm not really sure... haha

the weather was perfect! i went to pullen park, where, evidently, my parents used to take me a lot when i was a baby! it looked familiar, and my parents said we had been since then, but i might just be imagining that familiarity. i also fed a squirrel a piece of bread! and... played foosball, and... watched an unveiling of some really neat wolf sculptures, and... oh! there were these cool parabola-shaped cement/clay things that you sat in - there was one on either side of this field - and you could talk to someone on the other side as if you were sitting right next to them rather than fifty feet away! it was really cool. state has a pretty interesting campus, i must admit - i hope my brother goes there in a couple years! (i'm pretty sure he will)

i also went to the beach on saturday! it was fun! and we got cookout and had a picnic on uncw's campus! it was me, rebecca, ij, kate, lauren, and kelsey - it was very nice to see them again! the weather was nice again, but a little bit chilly!

i can't wait till summer. i can't wait till may 8th. i can't wait till.... everyone's out of school and we can hang out! i hope time speeds up, but then pauses for a looong time in mid-may. can we just stay 18 forever? er, 19?

i'm procrastinating.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

almost there!

so close to break - gah!!! just one more day of classes, then a basketball game saturday night! ah, yes. and i'm pretty much done with everything important now - except for my lesson tomorrow morning. i'll cross my fingers about that - my reeds have been pretty terrible. ugh.

but i'm excited about break because, on monday, my family and i are going to raleigh to see an eric clapton concert and then tuesday i'm gonna go visit people at state! yay! and then, depending on what i feel like doing, i may or may not spend tuesday night at meredith's house (she lives in cary - really close to state). but i'm definitely excited to see people i havent seen since christmas break!

oh, the only thing about visiting state is i'm not really sure where we'll park... but... we'll figure that out when we get there, i suppose? i hope! haha

Sunday, February 28, 2010

one more week!

only one more week till spring break!!! yay!! oh, i just realized... we have to figure out what to do with gus (our fish). i guess maybe meredith can take him... sorry, thinking out loud, but not really out loud - just through my typing. ok. start over.

one week till spring break!!! yayy!!!!! i have a math test tomorrow that i need to study for, but i think i'll do that when i'm doing laundry later tonight after steel pan practice. other than that, nothing too big this week as far as i know - much better than last week! which was horribly busy. and it was the new music festival, so i had to play for two masterclasses in front of two amazing clarinetists - surprisingly i wasnt really that nervous, and it was definitely a good experience.

i also got to go to some awesome concerts!!! imani winds were.... whoa. i really want to do that sometime - they're a woodwind quintet, which consists of a clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, and, strangely enough, french horn (which seems like a brass instrument, but since their tamber is so mellow they get to be in a woodwind quintet - no saxophone, though). but yeah, i've been thinking about it, and i have some really amazing musicians at my disposal and i was like, why can't we do that? i've already got it planned out and asked everybody else about it, too - i'll play clarinet (duh... not like i could play anything else!), meredith will play flute, tucker - basson, elvis - oboe, and, if she isn't "too busy," alex will play horn! we'll start practicing next semester, and maybe we can actually go somewhere with it. three of us are performance majors, so. we need some sort of job, right? i'm a little worried about alex, though - i know you don't know her or anything, but i don't know if she'll be really into it. she's amazing, though, so i wish she would be.

i wonder what next year will be like. if my classes will be hard, if i'll hang out with the same group of people, who my other roommates will be and if they'll drive me insane or if i'll get lucky two years in a row, if i'll ever see the people moving into apartments, if my tone will improve, if i'll make it into orchestra by second semester, if there are any threats in the rising freshman class, what it'll be like without grymes first semester, if i'll miss people, if i'll keep up with things i promised i'd keep up with, if i'll still talk to all my old high school friends (we better!)....

at least i have 3 more years to figure out what's next (probably 2 more years of school, actually...). but then what? doctorate? or will i be able to actually do something with my degree(s) by then? i guess i'll figure out eventually. as long as the world doesnt end before then - all these earthquakes...

Friday, February 19, 2010

home for the weekend!

well, it's been a long time since i posted anything, but i'm not too sure what to write about.

my computer works again - i think it's a wiring problem.... i should maybe still get it checked out, though. it was kinda funny - i got david to come look at it the other night and he was like, hmm, i don't know anything about vista, i don't know how to fix it, sorry. and then he went next door, and i was like, well that stinks. and then i put the computer in my lap and tilted the screen a little and voila! it was all better!

whenever i see the word 'voila' written down, i think it says viola at first. it should be spelled wah-lah in my opinion - that would make it a lot easier for us americans! haha

but yeah, i'm home right now, but i have to go back to ecu on sunday morning because i have to be at a basketball game at 12, i believe... either 12 or 1, but i'll plan on 12. i like basketball games, though - especially the women's games - so that's ok with me.

almost spring break! i want a break. ugh.

Saturday, February 13, 2010

stupid computers...

i was doing pretty good until my computer decided to be stupid and start dying. i almost wrote a blog earlier today about how i was happy and everything but right now it's hard to write that. i think cause i'm tired is a big part of it. but i'll try to write happy stuff, anyway - at least as much as i care to share.

it's snowing! we've gotten more so far than we did 2 weeks ago when it snowed. supposedly there's snow on the ground in 49 states right now - i'm assuming hawaii is the one left out. poor hawaii - no snow for you!

i just got back from touring with the wind ensemble this afternoon - it was pretty fun - we went to kinston high school thursday afternoon - where we actually played for all the 5th graders in town - i guess just a central location. That night, we went to Cape Fear High School in/near Fayetteville and played for a bunch of students and parents - there was this annoying beeping sound (it was an A-flat) that kept going in the background.... We never did find out what it was. Then we spent the night in Fayetteville and Friday morning we went to West Johnston High School, which is giNOrmous! It's in the middle of nothing - just out of nowhere it's just there! Rising up out of the hill like... a castle or something. Then we came home.... yep

So, Valentine's Day is Sunday - I'm hoping this one is better than other's, not like others have been bad, just.... not especially happy, either. We'll see.

The olympics started today - I saw part of the opening ceremonies, but then went outside to play in the snow. Not really play so much as walk in and look at. It was really pretty, though. A guy from Georgia, the country, died today in a luge accident in a practice round for the Olympics - I saw the video. It was kind of horrific - I don't suggest you watch it.

There's a women's basketball game tomorrow! Against Tulane, I think, but all I know is we're playing for first place in the conference! Go ECU!!! Oh, and no matter how well the women do, the pep band will NOT be going to Tulsa, which really stinks. Stupid budget cuts. Stupid broken computers.

Well, I guess I'm gonna stop and maybe sleep. I hope the snow stays for a few days and they cancel classes on Monday - that'd be nice. We'll see.

Goodnight!

Saturday, February 6, 2010

hmm....

i hope my finger never gets smushed by the lid of a steinway, no matter how high it falls from. ow.

i don't like people putting their feet on my bed - i know, i'm weird. i just... sleep in this bed. i want to wash my sheets really bad, now.

i need to listen to a bunch of stuff before tuesday.... we have a test in history

i don't like drunk people

don't steal.

ok - i think i'm done with random complaints now... i'll start on good stuff

yesterday was the percussion ensemble concert - the steel pan band i'm in played! it went pretty well - marianne was really really fast, though. marianne is a song, by the way. we were all supposed to smile, but everybody except for me wasnt very good at it - more than one person told me i was the best smiler - i got the smile award, something like that - haha

tonight was our wind ensemble concert!!! we played for the kids at all-district - my parents came! and a bunch of people from ashley and from the middle schools in wilmington - it was neat to see a bunch of people i know at my school! my band director from middle school and from high school and my old clarinet teacher were all there! i remember coming here the past 4 years and then to the middle school the years before - it's so weird that i go here now! and i'm in the band that we used to go see the night before our concert!

we played this song - it was a lot of fun - here's a recording of it (but it's just computerized)http://www.ostimusic.com/Aurora.html - it's 11 and a half minutes long, though... so i guess probably you won't want to listen, but if you like band music, i highly suggest it. there are some pretty cool mallet parts in there. annnnd, the very last chord is identical to the last chord in the first movement of First Suite in E-flat by Holst, so strange! exactly identical! well, at least by how it sounds....

after us, the jazz band played - the last song they played was billie jean (michael jackson) and it was really good - the singer, marvin/ej was so good - he was so funny hitting all those high notes! and then the sax professor here played - he was funny, too, cause of how he moves when he plays... but he was really good... obviously

I hope you've enjoyed my snow pictures! they were in no particular order... actually, they were kind of backwards, but i dont feel like fixing them. so, i stand corrected, they are in a very particular order: backwards. so start at the bottom now and work your way up!

long division...

today was pretty good. i practiced for about 3 hours - not all at once - a personal best. grymes (my teacher) says that, when he was my age, he practiced 5 hours a day. hah - i can't imagine doing that! my goal is about 2 a day, which i've done every day this week so far. i'm sorry for boring you with that....

so how about our women's basketball team is really pretty good and we might get to go with them to a tournament during spring break? well, it's true, and pretty exciting. we'll go to tulsa! i've never been to oklahoma! and we'll fly!!! that should be fun - the whole pep band on a plane together! haha

oh, and if they do well in that, we're goin' to disney!!!!! fun stuff! i guess we'll miss school, though.... hmm....

when dividing 3 by 2, you're always left with a remainder of 1, no matter what. sometimes it sucks.

i'm hoping for an epic snowball fight tomorrow - i dont see enough snow!

i like cheap books! i just got 4 for $9 and on sunday, i'm going back to fill a bag with as many as i can for $5! i just hope they're good! if not, at least they'll look good on a shelf....

sorry this is so random, i can't think of anything good to say, really...

can swim any day in november...

my roommate and my friend next door started the "pledging process" to get into kappa kappa psi tonight - it's a co-ed band service fraternity, but still, it's a fraternity, and i'm not sure what i think of those. maybe i just don't really like it because i feel like it's taking my friends from me... idk. it's not like they're gonna live in a house together. i'll still have meredith as my roommate! but still... it makes me feel a little left out, even though i chose not to do it - i didn't think meredith was gonna do it, too! the called her and asked her to. that was a bad sentence - i ended with a preposition, but i don't care.

but i had fun while they were out, anyway. me and several other people went to this jazz concert type thing at the hilton - it was really good, and i knew a bunch of people in it. or at least knew who they were - they pretty much all go to ecu, except for one high schooler, who... obviously, doesn't. they were all dressed all nice and looked all pretty and everything and i was wearing jeans and a tshirt. i felt so underdressed! but the students in the audience were all dressed like me, so i think i was ok. i owe michael $5 though, cause i didn't know the tickets were gonna cost anything.... all i had was $2.

chocolate milkshakes rarely fail to be wonderful, even if it's cold outside.

and sometimes it's nice to just tell someone... everything. even if you don't know them that well. sometimes that might be better cause they won't go tell other people since they... wouldnt know who to tell. hmm, i'm not sure what i'm saying. but it's nice to say things that you usually would keep to yourself.

ah, perfect song just came on!

don't wake me, i plan on sleeping in, don't wake me, i plan on sleeping-oooo,oooooo,ooo!

that was wednesday, but now it's friday... i need to wash my hair...

so, i don't have any homework. again. well, i did, but i did it all already. so basically i have nothing to do right now. which i shouldnt complain about - i probably should be practicing, but it's too late to go to the music building alone, and i'll need to sleep soon anyway.

have you ever been in a bad mood randomly for no reason? i'm not now, actually, i'm in a fairly good mood, except when i think about certain things. but the other day, it seemed like everyone was in a bad mood. that's one good thing about my roommate, she was an exception. she's always in a good mood! at least compared to the rest of us. so, i'm sorry if i ever snap at you or get angry for what seems like no reason - i'm probably just in a bad mood. i should wear a mood ring and not talk to certain people when it's not blue. that's happy, right?

people are stupid. some people are always stupid, and some are just stupid about some things. i'm stupid about some things, but not everything. i don't like when people are stupid. i want to find a cure. and if i can't find it, i hope someone does. i guess school cures some of it, but not all of it. that doesnt really make that much sense, i'm sorry.

don't be stupid. it's not smart. look both ways before you cross the street.... don't talk to strangers - but it's ok to talk to friends. make a wish at 11:11, even though it might not come true! (which is now, by the way)

k, done.

has a new home...

i feel like i live in the laundry room now. i did all my laundry friday night, but i watched the first two hours of memoirs of a geisha in here on saturday and i watched the third hour in here yesterday. and now.... i'm back. i'm gonna practice later - probably around nine. i should practice for more than an hour, but it's really hard to get back in that habit. oh, memoirs of a geisha is a Really good movie - and the music is amazing! the cello solos are all played by Yo Yo Ma, and the violin solos are played by Itzhak Perlman. or however that's spelled. the famous israeli guy that plays violin. well.... i think he's from isreal. hmm.... anyway, i love yo yo ma. i also love my ma. hahaha - get it? but yeah.

It was so warm yesterday! it got up to 72 degrees, at least! we had a picnic and i went on a walk back in the woods behind the parking lot - it was nice - there's a trail and stuff. there were so many squirrels back there! today was pretty nice, too, but about 20 degrees cooler.

oh, so yesterday, i went to this percussionist's recital, and he had a quartet with a clarinet, cello, horn, and...well, himself on snare drum, but it was pretty interesting. my favorite woodwind instrument (duh!), brass instrument, and string instrument all playing together! but what was really neat was, at the very beginning of the second movement, the cello had a really pretty solo - kind of mournful and... ah, i can't describe it! but it was beautiful, and then it started raining and the wind was blowing and it just added so much! it was so cool! and then the thunder came, it was almost erie. but i liked it. they couldnt have planned it better.

then we had steel pan practice which was fun! we have practice tomorrow night, too!

oh, and Itzhak Perlman is israeli, and i did actually spell it right! Yo-Yo Ma, on the other hand, is hyphenated.

ok, so...

well, i'm doing a good job at avoiding drama in college so far, but a few of my friends definitely aren't. i'm doing my best to keep out of it, but i'm definitely leaning towards one side cause the other one seems so wrong. and i hate how much i feel like it's wrong, because i feel like i was almost on the other side once before but i definitely didn't take it that far. i wouldn't want to. i hate when people.... hate me. but, i don't think there's anyone that hates me now. that's always a good thing. sorry if you're reading this now and have no idea what i'm saying - i'm kinda just writing this for me. but yeah, i've heard so many sides of this story, i'm not really sure what to think. well, actually... i'm just gonna stick with my opinion. but so many people have so many different thoughts.

i also hate when people act like different people when they're around different people. when people try to please whoever's there - to be cool depending on whoever they're trying to please's standards of "cool." i also feel like i said "people" a whole lote in that paragraph. gosh people.

i don't like when people have bad hygiene.

i made wind ensemble this semester again! 3rd chair! right behind the 5th year senior and the grad student! pretty exciting. they're both gonna be gone next year spring semester, i believe. wow. we have a pretty young section. i hope we can handle it.... also, i really like the solo that grymes (my clarinet teacher) gave me - it's by saint-saens. the beginning also kinda reminds me of a song by ludo (the horror of our love) which is a really random song - but just the first few measures of both songs.

so i've been sitting in the laundry room forever. so bored. my roommate went on a date. i didnt. everyone's gone for the long weekend. i'm not. man i'm bored.

ask me questionssss! please! http://www.formspring.me/lauraturk

most boring post ever...

so guess what. one of my math classes is writing intensive. which means... i have to write in them - sometimes papers! but yeah, here's an example... (you can skip it if you want)

Axiom: Every integer is either even or odd.

Theorem: If a is an integer and a^2 is an even integer, then a is an even integer.

Proof: Let a be an integer where a^2 is an even integer. If a were odd such that a=2q+1 for some integer q, a^2 would be odd because 2(2q^2+2q)+1 is odd. If a were even such that a=2q for some integer q, a^2 is also even because 2(2q^2) is even. So, since all odd integers squared equal odd integers and all even integers squared equal even integers and all integers must be either even or odd, a must be even. Q.E.D.

So yeah, that was part of my homework for the first day :/.... i haven't done proofs since geometry - but those were different. i guess these are more like the justification part in calculus.

oh, and if you ever get a chance to learn how to play steel drums - do it! it's fun. i'm learning now - i play 4 drums with 5 notes on each and the hardest part is learning where all the notes are.... it's not really logical to me, but i'll figure it out. we have practice on sundays and tuesdays from 8-10pm. I'm looking forward to a concert! haha

bowl games...

well, bowl games, i must admit, are fun. they are freezing cold, at least they are when they're in memphis on january 2nd, 2010, and you might lose after overtime because of a kicker that can't kick straight, but, overall, they are fun. especially the parades and pep rallies and the battle of the bands - not so much the 16 hour bus rides....

just thought you should know.

happy new year!

i should figure out how to put videos up for real, but i'm about to go to bed so not now. but i'm in there! at around 2:50 i believe. i look goofy, but so does everyone else - it was fun, though!
