so long, so long...

ahhhh!!! so, today's my last day in wilmington and i can't believe it. i'm not old enough to go away - i dont think i'm an adult and i dont feel like a college student, either. i'm finally starting to get kind of excited about going, but i dont know how long it'll last. i think the first few days, maybe even weeks, will probably just feel like a really long band camp or something. is it really that time already? i wish that i could go back before any of my friends left and just kind of... pause. i dont want summer to be over already!

the past couple weeks have been pretty fun, though - i went to beach blast today with rebecca, hayley, kelsey, and lauren - it was fun! it was crowded!! ahh! parking was annoying. i parked in a lot right across the street and it was full and i felt like a vulture, just circling the parking lot... stupid people kept coming in and stealing my spot!! so finally i just waited at one when the people got in their car to leave and some girl came up looking like she was gonna try to take it! nuh uh!! that's my spot! i've been driving in circles for the past ten minutes and you're gonna try to take my spot?? no way!

i can't believe i'm gonna be in college now! i went to ashley's band camp a few times the past couple weeks - they sounded pretty good and it was nice not having to be in charge. i start band camp at ecu tomorrow - it should be interesting.... i'm sure it'll be realllly long. every day from 8:15-8:30.... (am-pm, that is) we do get to start later on sunday, though - 1:00. me and lindsey are hoping to find a church nearby that we can go to while we're in greenville, er, g-vegas as mr. adams calls it...

so, the next time i write, i'll have moved in already! and had at least one day of band camp under my belt, but probably more since i hardly ever write in this multiple days in a row.

well, goodbye...

...

why do we have to leave?

time for tennessee...

so, we leave for tennessee on sunday morning - that's in... about one day - so soon! and then i'll be gone for almost a whole week, which, usually in the summer, doesn't seem like a very long time, but, this summer, it seems like an eternity to be away from people but just a short time to be with people, if that makes sense...? i know i'll have tons of fun and it'll feel like a really short trip when i'm there, but i think that it'll seem like i've been gone forever when i get back and see/talk to people that i havent been in contact with for a week or longer - and the thing is, it's only a few short weeks until i may never see some of these people again, which is... really sad... i just hope i can keep in contact with the people that matter to me - haha, oh the wonders of technology...

old times...

you'll never guess what i saw tonight. a firefly! i haven't seen a firefly in my yard in practically.... forever? i wasn't even sure if i saw it at first - just a flicker out of the corner of my eye, but it was there. i used to catch fireflies every 4th of july with my best friend, hannah. i havent really talked to her since the fireflies left, either. well, i have, just... we weren't really... friends anymore. but, maybe the return of the fireflies is a sign... old friendships can be rekindled and new ones can be started. maybe it's too late for hannah, but not for others. i just hope there's enough time before we all go off to school... just.... don't take the fireflies for granted - they won't always be there, and, when they're gone, you'll miss them.

another week...

well, this week has actually gone by pretty fast, so far. just today i was thinking that yesterday was tuesday when, actually, it was wednesday, surprisingly enough. i just hope the rest of the summer doesnt go by so quickly. i want to make the most of it.

on monday, "the group," as ij has affectionately nicknamed us, went to michelle's house to carry out our tye-dying plans. they all turned out really well! mrs. meadows is a pro, and she's got some really nice dye, too.

After tye-dying, we went to Rebecca's house for a sort of 'farewell' party, i guess. It was fun - there was food and there were friends and that's all a party needs, in my opinion. when we got there, we sat and ate for a while and then we all walked down to the waterway. it was a little cloudy and some people were afraid it would rain, but it was really nice. while we were down there, hayley drove her jeep down and met us and locked her keys in the car. silly hayley. some of us tried to run back and beat the car, but we were unsuccessful. it was a nice jog, though.

after going to rebecca's, we went with her to wal-mart to help her pick out a waterproof watch for her month-long backpacking trip to alaska. she's gonna be in alaska for a month! with no human contact for a month! only grizzlies and wolverines and.... yettis! and food from bushplanes. don't die, rebecca!! i'll miss you terribly! but anyways, it started pouring while we were there and my mom called me and was like, "it's raining..." haha, yeah. it was really raining. she said i might get stuck if i wait too long, cause our neighborhood can flood pretty bad sometimes, but we went to firehouse to see michelle anyway. and i got my same ol' boring turkey sandwich... haha, yum. i did almost get stuck at the front of my neighborhood, but luckily a side road wasnt quite flooded so i didnt have to walk.

so, that was monday. let's see.... tuesday, i went to wrightsville beach with michelle, hayley, kate, and kelsey. the water was so nice! it was fun. i could have fallen asleep on the beach though if michelle hadnt been watching.... ah, the warmth of the sand....

that night i went back to wrightsville with sam (my brother) and alex and we met lindsey and her friend leslie, too. i wanted to look for the sparkly water. it was really neat, i hope i can go back soon.... i'm not so sure i'd choose my little brother for company next time, though... sorry sam....

today, i went to see harry potter with paco, cory, and ainsley. i dont know cory and ainsley very well, actually, i hardly know them at all... haha, they do seem nice, though. and it was fun. me and paco got there about 30 minutes before cory and ainsley because we were originally gonna go to an earlier showing before he found out they were planning on going later, so we walked around mayfaire a little and went to barnes and noble. they have some really stupid games there, but they also have cool ones. there was one especially dumb one, but it'd be hard to describe without showing it to you. the movie was good, though. i suggest you see it, if you like that kind of thing. haha, i'm probably gonna see it again with my family sometime, but it's all good - i liked the movie, and maybe i missed something?

ok, i think that's enough for now, but i'll get back to you later, maybe less of a story and more... different stuff?

this week's adventures...

well, this could be another long post because the past few days have actually been pretty eventful an right now i don't have anything to do but type, so be prepared.

so, a couple days ago - monday, i believe - i had this strong urge to go to zeke's island. so, i did. with my brother and alex, just because they're the easiest to get up with last minute. so, we went down to fort fisher and walked allll the way across the basin on the rock wall/broken up pathway to get there. it was interesting, but tiring and treacherous. well, not exactly treacherous, but, the path was sort of slippery sometimes and really rocky. that wasn't the most interesting thing, but it was fun - in a way.

on tuesday, me and sam and alex (again) went to go look for the mysterious abandoned "catacombs" of the Dow Chemical plant down in the woods at kure beach. unfortunately, we were unsuccessful... we were soooo close, though!! when we got back, my brother looked at google maps and found it and saw that if we had turned right at the strange alien craft and pyramids rather than left, we would have found it. instead, we just went deeper in the woods and got covered in bugs. ewwww.... then we went to squiggley's. yum.

then, wednesday, i went to the beach with paco, zehan, camille, and victoria where victoria, paco and i attempted to finish our game of dots that we had started in calculus class, but we were unsuccessful, once again. that just means that we'll have to have another beach day before the summer's over - which isn't a bad thing, the beach is fun. after the beach, we all went to el cerro grande, but zehan and camille walked to walmart instead... if you ever feel like going to el cerro, go at 4:05 -no one is there and you'll be served in like, 5 minutes and out in 15. it was efficient (in the words of ij).

then, today, i acted as chauffer to ij, michelle, kate, and kelsey on our adventures to walmart and chickfila and the dollar store in preparation for tye-dying shirts on monday - we were gonna tye-dye today, but post-poned due to lack of time and experience - haha. michelle's mom is a professional, i hear. it was a fun day, despite all the rain!

well, that's about what i did this week so far, i'll talk to you later!

spontaneity, please...

so, yesterday was the fourth of july - woohoo! haha... well, it wasnt that bad or anything, but it could have been better. my family and i went to our neighbor's (affectionately-ish known as "beerman") fourth of july party/cookout thing where my brother and i swam in the pool most of the time. their water tastes weird - not that i try to taste it, but getting a little water in your mouth is pretty much inevitable when your swimming, which is very unfortunate in the ocean. bleh. but, it tastes almost... lemony? i think it might be all the alcoholic beverages that get spilled in there... hmmm... can you get drunk off of pool water?

i had to leave early to take car of this cute little doggy! it's an italian greyhound named sofie! she's so funny. the first time i went over there, she was really scared of me, but the second time she was all over me. she jumps soooo high! she has really long legs and is reallllly skinny and has a long neck and big ears that stand up and big eyes and a long, skinny tail that looks like a mouse's tail. well, she looks like a greyhound, but she's small - she doesnt even reach my knees, but she can jump about as high as my elbow! she likes to lie in my lap. man, i always get off on a tangent in these posts. oh, did you know that my old statistics teacher's boat's name is tangent squared?

after all of this, we went downtown to see the fireworks. i went with my family, but was hoping to meet up with people i knew there, eventually. well, i didnt have to wait long, but it wasnt the people i expected. we sat in the same place as always, up by the fountain in front of the courthouse and there were some empty chairs next to us. later some guys who i was... aquainted with (at best) came and sat in them. it was awkward... so then i decided to go walk around and i was gonna go by myself since my brother didnt want to come with me but as soon as i got down the steps this guy i knew showed up out of nowhere and was like, "laura!" and he pointed behind him and another one of my friends was there and her friend that i dont really know... but i was rescued! then we went cause she was supposed to meet another one of my friends who happened to be with two other friends of mine! ah! so many people! and none that i had expected to see, really. i am actually kind of surprised i didnt see more, though - i mean, i walked all over that place. but later alex showed up - we had to go find him though cause i couldnt give him good directions. i'm not supposed to text. not yet, at least. and as far as i know, he can't make calls on his phone? you need to work on that, alex. maybe i'll work on the texting part, too...

well, so far, i'm not so sure what i'm doing next week. i'm looking forward to thursday! yay, beach with "the group" as ij calls us - haha. and hopefully i'll get to do something wednesday! and hopefully, the other days, too. just let me know if you want to get together! i'm hoping i'll have some last minute plans, because spontaneity is fun, especially with friends.
