So yesterday was my first day ever of college! unless you count band camp, but that's not really school. it was also my first day since last tuesday where i didnt have to do anything marching band related, which was kind of nice - i wasnt horribly gross after just a few hours. ah, it felt so good....
i'm in both wind ensemble and symphonic band, which is really cool because i love playing in ensembles!!! after only the first few notes in wind ensemble, i knew i was going to love that class - i have a hard time calling it a class though cause it's just so fun. it's mostly upperclassmen music majors so they sound amazing, even sight reading! i have a hard time saying "we" because it's still hard to believe that i get to be counted as part of that group. i'm so glad i can, though - i had to get my schedule changed around a little, but it worked out.
right after wind ensemble i had symphonic band, which was still good, but kind of a disappointment after wind ensemble. this class is mostly freshmen music majors, so, at least they're still music majors, but it's definitely not the same. and, 2 of the pieces i've played before - one of which i really like, so it's ok, but not too challenging. i like the other, too, but my part isnt that exciting. anddd, i wish the trumpets could learn to double tongue...
that morning i had my sight singing class - it was my first class and it started at 10, which is pretty nice. my first class is at 10 every day, but my roommate's is at 8 so i've been waking up then, anyway. but the class was really fun! i met some new people and we sat in a semi-circle and learned about each other. my teacher is really cool, too! i can't wait for that class tomorrow, except i still need to get that book! it's been on backorder... i should pick that up today in my break....
today i have theory at 10, calc III at 11, then a break from 1 until marching band at 4. during that break i hope to eat lunch, get that book that's been on backorder, make brownies wth meredith, and practice. i need to practice. i need to get in the habit of practicing a lot every day - my teacher says at least 2 hours on days with marching band, like today, and more on days with no marching band. that's gonna be hard for me.
yesterday meredith, nicole, joy, madeline, david, and i went to target and walmart - i drove. that's definitely an advantage of having a car on campus - we can go to the store fairly easily, it's just a matter of who'll fit in my car. i suggest you dont try to fit 6 college age kids in a 5 seater. someone's going to be in pain.
